How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. 3. Fuel Pump
